Since 2010 the Andrew Alden Ensemble creates original live scores for classic silent films, blending contemporary chamber music, electronics, and improvisation. Founded by composer and filmmaker Andrew Alden, the ensemble reimagines films such as Nosferatu, The Phantom of the Opera, and the works of Georges Méliès, creating immersive performances where cinema and live music become inseparable.

NOSFERATU
Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror pairs F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent film with an original score performed live by the Andrew Alden Ensemble. Combining acoustic instruments, voice, electronics, and percussion, the performance brings a contemporary musical perspective to one of the most influential horror films ever made.

VAMPYR
Vampyr pairs Carl Theodor Dreyer’s 1932 film with an original score performed live by the Andrew Alden Ensemble. Combining strings, piano, percussion, voice, and electronics, the performance creates a new musical world around Dreyer’s strange and atmospheric vision of the supernatural.
